Opening on the 16th of October in LA, Scwhitters Miró Arp, presented by Hauser Wirth & Schimmel, will celebrate renewed Dadaists Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) and Hans Arp (1886-1966) with a comprehensive exhibition, insert in the context of works by Spanish painter, graphic artist and sculptor Joan Miró (1893-1983).

Dedicated to the re-eveluation and rediscovery of these three fascinating artists and long-time friends, the exhibition aims to interweave their languages as they instigated a revolution which continues to inform and influence contemporary art today. Starting from their common interest toward Cubism, Scwhitters, Miró, and Arp pursued different experimentations which generated radical ideas and confronted the eyes of a shocked Europe, characterised by the catastrophe of war.

Comprising of a series of their most relevant works, this exhibition will offer a fresh perspective on these three artists, while its location aims to reflect on the special role played by LA as a generative hub for European artists in the 1920s and 1930s. ‘This selection represents a fresh approach to radical works that impacted future generations of artists on an international scale. In collaboration with the artists’ foundations, we have identified masterworks that conjure the formal, political and discursive impulses of artistic production one hundred years ago, and inspire the relevance of these works today.’ said Iwan Wirth about the exhibition, curated by historian Dieter Buchhart.

With a clear focus on the movements of Dadaism and Surrealism, Scwhitters Miró Arp also reflects on the shade interest of these artists for the fusion between painting and sculpture through assemblage. The meeting of these artists and innovators’ sensibility with crude post-war imagery inject these works with a distinct sense of humour which couldn’t be any more coherent with the Dada movement as a whole. Not to be missed.
