Jennifer Nehrbass creates figurative, collage-like oil painting treating on feminist themes.

Reflecting the visage of female subjects or half-nudes, the American artist adds a touch of surrealism to her art. Depicting women in nautral settings of the crystal mountains or deep-green forests, there is a symbolic value attached to Nehrbass’s works, where cut-out-like painting techniques build associations with the portraits by Rene Magritte and Roland Penrose. Presenting female characters as independent, liberated, yet sensual, Nehrbass enters into the polemic over the modern femininity ideals.
