Brought to you by Oscar-wining film companies Breakthru Films and Trademark Films, Loving Vincent will be an animated feature-length film on the influential life and controversial death of one of the most renowned painters of the 19th century – Vincent Van Gogh.
Directed by Polish painter Dorota Kobiela and British filmmaker Hugh Welchman, the film will be made entirely of hand-made oil paintings produced by over 100 contributing artists who are experts in Vincent’s swirling techniques. With 12 oil paintings per-second, and a staggering estimated 57,000 paintings in total, it will be a visually stimulating masterpiece, and the first of it’s kind.
The plot is based on 800 letters written by the artist himself, allowing us to delve deep into the mind of one of the greatest artists of our time, and the characters he encountered. Set to release sometime this year, Loving Vincent will bring back the beauty of handcraft to film, in an ambitiously revolutionary feat.
