Known as "the best major festival in Europe", we cant hide our excitement about this years line-up! From the 6th till the 13th of August, some of the best up and coming and established artist will be performing at the Hungarian festival.
Far from the antagonism that is somewhat drawn from words, graffiti and ecology put aside, some artists prove us henceforth that it is possible to act on our urban landscapes and still only leave a scarce environmental imprint.
These are some great handmade mixed media collages by British artist Joe Webb. His collage work uses the basic rule of sourcing just two or three images. Then Webb presents them as a reinvented single image, with the objective of communicating a new message or idea. He started making these simple handmade collages as a sort of luddite reaction to working on computers for years.
Sometimes art happens by accident. Never has this been more true for New York-based artist Nao Matsumoto who, in late-2011, nearly sliced off his middle finger while cutting wood in his studio. Living in New York, Matsumoto had found himself relying on the middle finger gesture quite frequently. So the accident made him realize the severity of the potential loss – an accident, he says, that would have been equivalent to losing his voice.
This coming Friday, the definitive film about one of the greatest icons of the 20th Century, Bob Marley is going to be screened at a special screening at the BFI. Kevin Macdonald, who has proven his talent for documentary in Touching The Void and One Day In September and has now put his attentions to chronicling the life and the social and political influence the reggae legend had on the world in Marley.
