Now in its third year running, the LVMH Prize has announced its 23 selected semi-finalists. This year marks the most internationally diverse selection to date, with designers spanning China, Japan, Iran, Malaysia and America amongst others. With previous winners including Thomas Tait (2014), Marques Almeida (2015) and Jacquemus (2015 Special Prize), there are two returning designers from last year’s competition: Astrid Andersen and Koché.
The LVMH Prize is dedicated to supporting and promoting emerging talent, and features a prize-winning grant of £300,000, along with prestigious developmental guidance from LVMH’s most influential design teams. On June 16th, the exclusive winner will be hand-picked by an elite panel of experts including Jonathan Anderson, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Phoebe Philo, and Riccardo Tisci, along with other LVMH executives.
This year’s competition features multiple on-the-rise labels such as Wales Bonner and Y/Project. Brandon Maxwell has been selected, having already snagged red carpet clients including Gwyneth Paltrow. Acting as Lady Gaga’s Creative Director for several years, Alyx by Matthew Williams also finds a place amongst the semi-finalists, and other talents include Caitlin Price, Cottweiler, Alex Mullins, and Wanda Nylon.
“Our goal is to nourish the vitality and creativity of the fashion eco-system on an international scale. As the leader in our industry, we play a natural role in discovering young talents and helping nurture their growth,” – Delphine Arnault (Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton, and initiator of the LVMH Prize)
