Gucci’s SS17 campaign has employed some extra modelling talent this season: lions, tigers, and leopards. The animals have already featured heavily as embellishments, motifs and jewellery throughout the Gucci line, so the campaign appears to be a tribute to Gucci’s new emblem.
Shot by Glen Luchford, Alessandro Michele’s colourful, retro vision continues to wow with a 70s nightclub-inspired collection, whilst for the campaign he cites the house and studio of expressionist Cy Twombly, the work of postmodernist painter Mario Schifano, and actress Laura Betti, muse of iconic director Pier Paolo Pasolini, as his other inspirational sources. The animals wonder casually around the models, even posing with a few star pieces themselves, like the above lion expertly clutching a leather bag. Sorry to say humans, but you’ve been outshined.
