While she may have broken out as Kanye West’s backing dancer, Kacy Hill has truly come into her own. Her debut LP Like A Woman arrived at the end of last week, reaffirming the unique talent we saw in her 2015 EP Bloo.
While the tone of the music varies across the album – from the refined R&B feel of the title track to the sugary pop sound of ‘Hard To Love’ – Hill’s voice remains astoundingly pure throughout, even with the light distortion of ‘First Time’. As the title suggests, her latest album sees her venture into adult territory, broaching the ever-complex themes of love, distance and vulnerability. In fact, the entire LP exemplifies vulnerability from the word go, with Hill’s deep lyrics told through that utterly angelic voice of hers. The result is a stunning, 12-track ode to growing up – one that reassures the rest of us.
