When two talented artists suddenly come together, it’s not always the collaboration you’d dreamed of. Yet there’s no such fear when Nick Murphy and Kaytranada are involved, who joined forces on new release ‘Your Time’.
Zane Lowe debuted the track as his Hottest Record in the World on his Beats 1 show this evening, where he discussed the song as well as Murphy’s decision to drop his previous moniker, Chet Faker. He explained that, as Chet Faker, he found himself asking “Am I feeling where I’m at? Is this where I want to be?”, instead returning to his real name in a quest for purity.
Though they come from different corners of the world – Murphy originally being from Australia, Kaytranada from Montreal – the producers unite to create an effortlessly rich sound. Filled with a chunky baseline, flecks of synth and a purposefully drowsy beat, all of which sealed with Murphy’s beautifully coarse voice, ‘Your Time’ is a fitting nod to both past and present. As an old track of his, he felt that it didn’t fit his next album – which will be his first as Nick Murphy – and so is instead releasing it as part of Missing Link EP, a collection of 5 tracks which appears to fill the void between his former and present aliases.
Missing Link comes with the announcement of Nick Murphy’s tour of the USA and Europe, with UK dates in Manchester and London on December 2nd and 5th respectively.
