Everything slows at this time of the year – short days, long sleeps – and it seems singer-songwriter and producer sir Was has landed on the perfect soundtrack for it. His new release ‘In The Midst’ is the first to come from his forthcoming album, Digging A Tunnel, and virtually induces a state of relaxation with its wandering guitar and bass melodies, refined percussion, and his faraway vocals.

sir Was has spent most of his life travelling to all corners of the world, from his native Gothenburg to New York by way of Mali and South Africa to name but a few, which perhaps explains the eclectic mix of influences that pepper his unusual sound – not to mention his vast multi-instrumental abilities. His latest track, ‘In The Midst’, is a fine reflection of his varied, intoxicating musical style. Beautifully drowsy, the song is layered but smooth, warm but crisp, creating a fusion of paradoxes.

It’s not just his music that sir Was uses to harness you. The accompanying video is equally striking, yet in an altogether different manner as we follow him through another land in a glorious visual production directed by Frederik Egerstrand. Following this stunning track, we’re happy to come with sir Was as he begins digging his tunnel to a promising debut album.
